26. AMY  WORRIED

Amy: I’m worried, Alan.

Alan: Why?

Amy: Jeena n’t written yet.

Alan: She’s probably too busy.

Amy: Mrs Greenalready had two letters from Martha. And Jeenan’t even sent us a postcard.

Alan: Youn’t written to her either.

Amy: But I written to Mother and In’t had an answer yet.

Alan: Shen’t had time to write you yet.

Amy: Wen’t  heard from Father either.

Alan: You needn’t worry. We may hear from them even today. The afternoon postn’t come yet.

Amy: Oh yes, it. The postmanalreadytwice.

Alan: Still you needn’t worry.

Amy: You’ve already said that, Alan. I can’t help WORRYING. Perhaps, she’s ill.

Alan: Who? Mother?

Amy: Yes, Mother. Or Jeena, or both, perhaps. It’s a pity they not on the phone.

Alan: Oh, youhopeless, darling. Still I have an idea. You can go to Devon and see how theygetting on.

Amy: Who? Me? What about you, Alan? Who’s going to look after you? And after the house, too?

Alan: Really, Amy. I’ve stayed alone in the house before. I can manage very well.

Amy: Can you?

Alan: Of course. You needn’tafraid. I’m not going to break your best china, or burn holes in the carpet.

Alan:  Amyaway, Debby. She’s gone to Devon to stay with her mother and father.

Debby:Oh,she? How longshe staying there?

Alan: A week. Jeenaalready there.      

Debby:Oh, bother! But what about you, Alan? Could you come, perhaps?

Alan: Well, Irather tired. I’ve had a lot of work today. What the filmit, Debby?

Debby:Gone Girl. Perhaps, youseen it.

Alan: No, In’t.it adapted from the novel by Gillian Flynn?

Debby:Yes. you read it?

Alan: Yes, I. What timethe show?

Debby:At seven.

Alan: Oh, 7very early for me. I’ve still got jobs to do today.

Debby:What jobs?

Alan: In’t washed up yet.

Debby:But it’s only five. You have plenty of time to wash up your breakfast things.

Alan: My breakfast things? I have a lot of other things to wash up. In’t washed up at all this week.

Alan: you got any aspirin, Amy? I have a headache.

Amy: Wait a minute. I must have a bottle of aspirins in my bag. Yes, here it.

Alan: Thank you. I’ve had a lot of work today.

Amy: You must very tired, darling.

Alan: Well, I. I’ve had a very busy day.

Amy: I can make you a cup of tea.

Alan: That’s a very good idea. Yes, make me a cup of tea. Thank you, darling.

Amy: But give me a cigarette, please, Alan. In’t had time for a cigarette today. I’ve  too busy.

Alan: Really? There’s a packet of cigarettes on my desk. No, wait a minute. There must  in one of the pockets of my coat.

Amy: I can’t find them. I’ve found a box of matches, and a book of stamps, but there aren’t any cigarettes.

Alan: Oh, silly of me! Of course, theyn’t there! Here they , on the table! They here all the time.
